ER308/308L wires have chromium (19–21%), nickel (9–11%), and low carbon (≤0.03%) to avoid carbide precipitation. The weld metal has tensile strength of approximately 580 MPa, yield strength of 350 MPa, and elongation at about 35%. Low-carbon version provides resistance to intergranular corrosion following welding. With compatible flux, the system exhibits smooth appearance of the bead, low porosity, and good slag detachability. It shows great performance in automatic and semi-automatic submerged arc welding processes.
